Should You Use MYOB Software

We are often asked whether MYOB is better than Quickbooks.

Like many large companies these days, MYOB are not interested in their end users, they are only interested in their bottom line.

Do they care how their professional partners are treated? Not if you listen to John Moss, who’s one of their managers. He’s interested in the internal runnings of MYOB, but his attitude is that MYOB partners will come and go, for whatever reasons they choose. Does he care? Well, he pays lip service to that, but his actions speak louder. ….. Next …..

Small business owners understand the importance of customer service – if there’s a problem that’s brought to their attention by a client, they’ll do whatever it takes to remedy that problem.

MYOB, on the other hand, feel that a simple “sorry” will fix everything. Not surprising that they have such a high turnover of support staff at MYOB. The management obviously do not care about their staff, and so their staff really do not care about MYOB customers. MYOB doesn’t care if they stuff things up so that a bookkeeper loses a client – after all, they are only interested in selling software.

A number of bookkeepers that we’ve spoken to are weaning their clients off MYOB and moving them to other software such as Quickbooks – this could be a move that others will be following. Why would you recommend a software company that really doesn’t want to provide after sales support?

How To Make Money Bookkeeping

How do you decide whether or not you want to start a bookkeeping business? Click HERE

When times get tough and your husband or boyfriend is working less hours than previously, it seems an obvious decision to use some of that bookkeeping experience that you’ve gained from doing his books. So you start to think that if you can do your hubby’s books, why can’t you do the bookkeeping for other people?

So is the motivation simply that you recognise a potential opportunity to make some extra cash? After all, you’ve already got a computer, and maybe have an accounting package. The accountant says that your bookwork is ok – then all you need is some clients.

You talk to hubby, and he says that his mate need help with the bookkeeping. You ask your family and friends, and find that suddenly it’s not as easy to get your bookkeeping business as you first thought.

That’s the pattern that many bookkeepers follow when considering the options of starting a bookkeeping business.

How to bring in extra money to the household each week

There are some points that you should carefully consider, that will affect the direction that you need to take from here:

1) Are you simply wanting to bring in extra money to the household each week? Or
2) Do you want really want to go through the whole exercise of starting a bookkeeping business?
3) You really want the phone to ring and someone to ask you to come in and do their books, some admin work, and filing for a couple of days a week

All three options have the potential of making you money from bookkeeping. And all three options require completely different strategies to achive the differnt outcomes.

Many “wanna-be” bookkeepers contact Bookkeeping Team Pty Ltd wanting help in getting them started. Our goal is to help these people decide which of the three options they are really wanting/ are prepared to achieve.

One decision leads to another which leads to another. How do you decide whether or not you want to start a bookkeeping business? Start by reading our EBook “How to Find Bookkeeping Clients”. This book walks you through all the stages of starting a bookkeeping business, to finding your first book keeping clients. Download your copy HERE

How To Start Bookkeeping

Wanna know how to start bookkeeping? Read our Ebook “How To Find Bookkeeping Clients”.

There’s many courses available in your local college of education, or online, about how to learn how to do bookkeeping.

They will probably help you with learning all the technicalities of bookkeeping. Do they still teach double-entry bookkeeping? Who knows what they teach, judging by some of the bookkeepers that contact us looking for clients.

Unfortunately the mere fact that you have a qualificatiion does not really set you up to start your own bookkeeping business.

New legislation in Australia recognises the importance of experience, though it’s uncertain what the legislation actually means. Apparently you need 1400 hours of experience to become a registered BAS Agent. Does that mean 1400 hours of bookkeeping, or 1400 hours of BAS preparation?

Which then leads to the question: At what stage does day – to – day book keeping become BAS preparation?

Having a driving licence does not make someone ready to enter the Formula One Grand Prix. Indeed there’s probably many capable drivers that have not taken a driving test, just as there are many extremely capabale and skilled bookkeepers that have no formal qualifications.

Over the years we’ve helped many bookkeepers kick-start their bookkeeping business

The biggest challlenge for many would-be bookkeeprs is gaining the very valuable experience needed to become a contract or self – employed bookkeeper

Once you’ve gained that experience, you need to find clients – that’s where we have helped bookkeepers like Simone and Margie in Perth, Western Australia. From zero, we’ve helped them build their businesses upto a steady $12,000 per quarter turnover.

Not bad for a part-time business!

There’s Jeremy on the Gold Coast, who’s pushing to the $75,000 p.a limit and GST registration, and Kathy, on Brisbane’s Southside, who’s also reaching that magic number.

David, in Melbourne has been working hard with his business after we gave him a helping hand over the first few hurdles of just getting the first couple of clients.

Good Impression To Start Your Bookkeeping Business

A lady (we use the term loosely) who calls herself a bookkeeper, contacted us from a suburb just south of the river in Perth, WA.

Attention Perth Bookkeepers: Established bookkeeping business for sale – t/o $60k+ p.a (part time) CONTACT US for details

She’s been struggling to get clients, and was asking us for help. She then complained that when she learned that if we were to help her, she would have to pay for our services.

After a couple of weeks she contacted the Bookkeeping Team P/L again, deciding that she probably did need some help in finding some bookkeeping clients.

Right now there is an excellent opportunity for an experienced bookkeeper who wants to walk into an established bookkeeping business that’s turning over in excess of $60k per annum part time. CONTACT US for details

The first attempt at speaking to the struggling bookkeeper, she was on her way to a funeral, and would call back. A week later (by which time presumably the funeral had finished) she still hadn’t called back. So a follow-up phone call was made.

This time she was too busy to talk, because it was her birthday, and she was preparing for a birthday party. Nothing wrong with that – so when would be a good time to call her, or was she really interested in pursuing this anyway?

“F@#K @#F” was the response

Mmmmm – we are sure glad that we didn’t go to any trouble to help her with her bookkeeping business.

If that’s the way that she conducts herself on a professional level, maybe she should look in the mirror and see why she’s struggling to find book keeping clients for her fledgling business.
